AI SEO consultant: get your business named in ChatGPT and AI Overviews

Your buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews before they visit a single site. I work on what those answers say about you: whether you're named, which pages get cited, and whether the facts are right. It's the same work I publish research on, done personally and scoped over email. I don't guarantee placements. I measure progress.

Ranking in Google is not the same as being cited by AI

In October 2026 I took 407 Google queries that had shown an AI Overview a week earlier and compared every page the overviews cited with the organic results for the same query, down to position 100. 65% of the cited pages did not rank in the top 100 at all. ChatGPT went further: 91% of the pages it cited were outside Google's top 100 for the query it was asked.

Where AI Overview citations ranked for the same query

2,961 cited web pages from 407 mobile queries in English, Bulgarian, Slovak and Romanian search, October 26, 2026. English queries alone: 72% outside the top 100. Full method and open data: Can you get cited in AI answers without ranking in Google?

Rankings still help. The result in position 1 was cited 34% of the time, the result in position 11 only 7%. And 46% of the citations that didn't rank came from a site that ranked with a different page. But the numbers show where the extra work is: which sources an engine reads, how your facts appear across the web, and whether a page answers the exact question a buyer types. Most SEO retainers don't measure this part of search yet. I do.

What AI SEO consulting covers

A measured AI visibility baseline

A fixed set of buyer prompts, the questions your customers actually ask, run several times on each engine, because answers change from run to run. In my 60-query tracking test, the choice of engine moved a brand's measured visibility about 2.3 times more than the model's own randomness. So the baseline is per engine, never one blended score.

A map of the sources AI reads

Which pages each engine cites for your category: listicles, comparison pages, review platforms, forums, your own pages. The shape of the question decides a lot. In my pilot, "best X" questions cited listicles 84% of the time, while "X alternatives" questions cited comparison pages 86% of the time.

Wrong facts, fixed at the source

Outdated hours, wrong prices, services you stopped offering, a brand name confused with someone else's. I trace each error to the page the model read and fix it there, on your site and on third-party profiles. 93% of businesses have at least one wrong or missing fact in AI answers.

Pages AI can quote accurately

Pages that answer one buyer question clearly in the first lines, with the specifics a model needs: what you do, for whom, where, at what terms, compared with what. Structured data that matches the visible text. Written for people first, so a model can quote them without guessing.

Presence in the sources AI already trusts

Getting into the lists, comparisons and directories the engines cite for your category, on merit. Not through self-ranked "best of" pages: in one 100-query test, AI Overviews cited such lists 323 times and still didn't recommend their author in 69% of cases. The evidence is here.

Technical access for AI crawlers

Whether OpenAI, Perplexity, Anthropic and Google crawlers can reach your pages, which robots.txt and CDN rules block them, whether content renders without JavaScript, and how bot settings on your host behave. I've seen shared-hosting firewalls return 403 errors to AI crawlers without the owner ever knowing.

AI SEO vs traditional SEO: what actually changes

Traditional SEOAI SEO (GEO)
The goalA page ranks for a queryYour business is named, cited and described correctly in an answer
What gets readYour pages, ranked by GoogleYour pages plus third-party pages; ChatGPT searched for something other than the exact query in 98.5% of my October 2026 runs
How it's measuredPositions, clicks, CTRMention and citation rates across repeated runs, separately per engine
How stable it isPositions move over weeksThe median AI Overview replaced half of its cited pages within one week

None of this replaces the fundamentals. Google says its AI features rest on the same core ranking and spam systems as classic search, and its own guide to hiring an SEO now lists "optimizing for generative AI" among legitimate SEO services, with a warning to check that any "AEO" or "GEO" advice matches its official guidance. Mine does. There is no secret trick for AI answers. The extra work sits on top of a site that already works.

How a GEO engagement works

  1. You write to me. Your site, your markets and languages, the competitors you lose to, and the questions buyers ask before they choose. A few sentences is enough to start.
  2. Baseline. I build the prompt set with you, run it repeatedly on each engine you care about, map the cited sources and list every wrong or missing fact. You get it as a written report you keep.
  3. Roadmap. What to change on your site, what to fix on third-party sources, and which lists and comparisons are worth earning a place in - in priority order, with the reasoning for each item.
  4. Monthly program, if it makes sense. Three depths, scoped after the baseline. I do the analysis, technical work and source targeting; on-site changes are made by your team or by me. Every month is re-measured on the same prompts, so you see what moved.

Everything runs over email with read-only access to Search Console and analytics. No calls, no meetings. If your site has basic crawl or indexing problems, the right first step is an SEO audit, which includes an AI visibility baseline as standard.

Who this is for, and who should wait

A good fit

B2B software and services, where buyers ask an assistant for a shortlist. Professional services and agencies. Online stores selling considered purchases. Local businesses that people look up as "best [service] in [city]". Multilingual sites: my studies cover English, Bulgarian and Slovak search, and in October 2026 ChatGPT searched only in English for 14% of Bulgarian and Slovak queries. And any business that AI already describes wrongly.

Better to wait

If Google can't crawl or index your site properly, fix that first; AI visibility is built on the same foundation. If nobody in your category asks AI anything yet, start with a one-time baseline instead of a monthly program. And if you need a guaranteed "#1 in ChatGPT", I'm the wrong person; no one can guarantee that.

AI SEO consulting questions, answered

What does an AI SEO consultant do?

Works on how AI assistants answer questions about your market: whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and AI Overviews name you, which pages they cite, and whether the facts are right. In practice that's a measured baseline, a source map, fixes at the source, citable pages, third-party presence, crawler access and repeat measurement.

Is AI SEO consulting better than a traditional SEO agency?

They're not substitutes. AI features rest on the same ranking systems, so weak fundamentals limit AI visibility too. The difference is the extra layer: 65% of AI Overview citations in my data didn't rank in the top 100 for the query, so sources, facts and measurement need their own work.

Is generative engine optimization worth the investment?

If your buyers ask AI before they buy, usually yes - but measure it properly. Analytics undercount AI: CallRail tracked 0.073% of small-business calls to AI, while companies that asked customers saw far more (Outfunnel: 7.29% of leads named ChatGPT or AI). I combine prompt tracking, a "how did you hear about us" field and branded search. More in my attribution study.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and nobody can. Answers change between runs and engines; the median AI Overview in my data replaced half its cited pages within a week. What I commit to is a baseline, specific fixes and re-measurement on the same prompts.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

Fixing wrong facts can move faster than rankings, because AI search keeps re-reading its sources. Being recommended in a competitive category takes longer and depends on the third-party sources engines trust. The baseline gives you a realistic estimate for your market first.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

It's optional. Google Search doesn't use it, so it's never the main lever. I add one when it's cheap to maintain, after crawler access, clear pages, consistent facts and third-party sources.

Do you work with e-commerce, local and multilingual sites?

Yes. The method stays the same, the sources differ: product and comparison pages for stores, Google Business Profile and review platforms for local businesses, per-language prompt sets for multilingual sites.

How much does AI SEO consulting cost?

Scoped over email and priced fixed up front: a one-time AI visibility baseline, or a monthly GEO program in one of three depths. Scope depends on markets, languages and engines. No hourly billing, no long lock-in.
